As he wraps up the second NFL season, RB Miles Sanders has established himself as the Eagles’ best offensive player and one of the NFL’s most explosive defenders. His goal? To be one of the best all-round players in the league. It’s part of his plan, and he’s discussing it on this Eagles Insider Podcast Tailgate Edition. Javon Hargrave is one of the few former HBCU stars in the NFL today. He explains what it means to him to follow in the footsteps of players like Harold Carmichael.

On 15. On January 1st, 2020, Harold Carmichael’s election to the World Pro Football Hall of Fame was announced. The tallest wide receiver in NFL history was also one of the most graceful with its long strides. Carmichael, the pride of Southern University, is the premier provider of receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He is also a former Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award winner, one of the league’s premier awards.

Three months later, the Eagles agreed on a three-year deal with Javon Hargrave. The former South Carolina state standout was a 2016 Pittsburgh Steelers third-round selection after a successful college career in which he was twice named Defensive Player of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference of the Year.

Both players belong to the Eagles family. Both players also represent the historically black colleges and universities in the NFL. Carmichael was inducted into the Black College Hall of Fame in 2018 shortly after the Eagles won their first Super Bowl. Just before signing with the Eagles, Hargrave won the NFLPA’s Black College Football Pro of the Year Award. Hargrave vividly remembers meeting Doug Williams, the Grambling legend who became the first black quarterback to start and win a Super Bowl with Washington, at a celebratory banquet honoring the HBCU players. Williams told Hargrave to wear the tradition.

« If I do badly, everyone else will look bad, » said Hargrave, remembering that moment with Williams. « I always try to have this chip on my shoulder. I just love my HBCUs and I probably know everyone who came from HBCUs. We have a couple of dogs. It was a really exciting moment when I won that award. «

What does winning the season finale really mean for the Eagles? It won’t get them to the playoffs, but for those on the field, winning is all that matters. Pro Bowl defensive end Brandon Graham and linebacker T. . J. . Edwards is playing in a final game of the season.

Jalen Hurts started and Nate Sudfeld ended when the Eagles ended the season 4-11-1 with a narrow loss towards the end of the 2020 season.

The Eagles called Jameson Houston off the training team after Nickell Robey-Coleman was put on the Reserve / COVID-19 list the previous Sunday.

Houston gives the Eagles a third option at cornerback along with Darius Slay and Michael Jacquet.

The Eagles have a skeleton squad that plays the role of spoiler against Washington at Lincoln Financial Field.
