Sen. . Rand Paul said Sunday that Dr. . Anthony Fauci owes an apology to « every single parent and school-age child » in the country after the White House coronavirus task force member said getting children back to school should be a top priority.

« No, he owes one to every single parent and school-age child in America, » said Mr.. . Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, replied.

The comment comes after Dr. . Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, said earlier Sunday: “The standard position should be to try as best as possible to keep the children in school or to get them back to school. ”

Conservatives on social media have said Dr.. . Fauci’s comments as a flip-flop, but he has made the same argument for the past few weeks. On Nov. . In 19 he told CNN’s Chris Cuomo, “I think one of the things we have to do is do our best to keep the kids at school. ”

But Mr.. . Paul is apparently not satisfied. In his criticism of Dr. . Fauci on Sunday, the Senator shared an article in June calling the doctor and « government expert » too powerful.

« Dr. . Fauci, every day we seem to hear from you things that we cannot do. But when asked, « Can we go back to school? » I don’t hear much certainty at all. ‘Perhaps. ‘ ‘It depends on. ‘ Guess what? It is rare for children to convey this. I don’t hear that from you. All I hear is, « We can’t, we can’t, we can’t play baseball, » said Mr.. . Paul said during a hearing in June about the response from COVID-19, the New York Post reported.

« If you have listened to my opening address and my answer to any of the questions – and I think you did – we must do everything we can to get the children back to school. I think we can agree on that, ”said Dr. . Fauci replied at the time.
