Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn is parting with some of the most iconic equipment of her career for a good cause

The former alpine ski racer, 35, is auctioning off custom ski suits, US jackets, backpacks, ski team helmets and more from the last two decades of his career over the next few years weeks benefiting the Lindsey Vonn Foundation, which helps motivate and support young girls with various community events and scholarships throughout the year

Every Friday through October and November, items from the Vonn Collection will go on sale on the Charity Auctions Today website This Friday’s new addition is a rainbow-print ski suit she wore while winning the giant slalom at the 2011 Alpine Skiing World Cup

« It’s so hard to let go of so many memories and special moments in my life, but due to the current landscape, the Lindsey Vonn Foundation was unable to host their annual fundraising event, so we have decided to do something different and auction off some of my special moments, « the 35-year-old told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement

The retired athlete continues, “I never honestly thought I would part with a lot of these things, but making sure we have enough funds to support the children who are really need resources for their educational programs and scholarships me than anything I could ever collect « 

The Lindsay Vonn Foundation typically hosts many events and campaigns, with its recent initiative – Career Day with the Lindsey Vonn Foundation – bringing together athletes like gymnast Shawn Johnson and ballerina Misty Copeland to mentor program fellows

Vonn retired from professional skiing in 2019 She won bronze in women’s downhill at the FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in Are, Sweden in February 10th of this year, marking his last race

She had previously said she would not retire until she broke the record for most World Cup wins, currently held by Ingemar Stenmark with 86 Vonn won 82 World Cup races and has three Olympic medals – one gold and two bronze

« I’ve been saying for a few years that I will continue to ski until I break the record, but I’ve realized that my career is not the sum of that record, » Vonn told PEOPLE
