World News – US – Exclusive: Phylicia Rashad Talks About Blumhouse Thriller « Black Box, » Her Pride in Baby Sister Debbie Allen & More

BOSSIP had the honor to chat with iconic Hollwyood legend, Phylicia Rashad, about her new role in the upcoming thriller’ Black Box, ‘part of the’ Welcome To The Blumhouse ‘series ‘which will be released on Tuesday October 6 on Amazon Prime as Rashad counts the old Bela Lugosi movies she would watch as a child, as well as the classic version and 2010 remake of’ The Wolfman ‘and’ Interview with the Vampire Brad Pitt, among her favorite horror films, she concedes the role in ‘Black Box’ is a bit of a departure for her, she says she was drawn to it immediately after reading the script

“It’s a really good story and it’s told very well,” Rashad told BOSSIP “I read the script and said,“ Wow, that’s not a script I see every day « Then I spoke with director Emmanuel [Osei-Kuffour] and it confirmed to me that this was something I really wanted to do »

If you didn’t know Phylicia Rashad had an Instagram, maybe it’s because her account is brand new After launching with a phenomenal presentation on September 22, she took to social media to promote her new projects, including « Black Box »

Asked about the line from the movie, which she used as a caption, Rashad explained, “It’s very important in the movie, you see that’s a point of the plot where it comes into play, very strong, and in my life I spend a lot of time looking at the tendencies of my mind A person should not let his mind rule him, and at the same time a person should not fight his mind and try to suppress or control his urges So I want to make friends with my mind I’ve heard that your mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy «

Besides the power of the subconscious, “Black Box” also explores in depth the parent / child dynamic, revealing how some parents are ready to do anything to protect and preserve their children

“It’s an extreme circumstance and that’s what I can tell about it,” Rashad says of how family dynamics are explored in the thriller. “So it’s a very human story, it is why the events that take place in the film are so disturbing because they are so human that it is plausible «

While we were discussing family dynamics, it seemed fair to ask Ms Rashad about her sister, Debbie Allen, who is the subject of Sunday (Oct 4) TV ONE episode « UNCENSORED »

« Deborah is phenomenal, okay? » Phylicia Rashad tells BOSSIP, before embarking on childhood stories « She was always the one who was physically smaller than the BIG things she would set out to do »

« In college, when Deborah joined the string ensemble, what instrument do you think she chose to play? » She chose the bass violin She was shorter then than she is now and she was so short they had to put her on a stool and her little fingers couldn’t stretch out on the fingerboard , so that little hand was running up and down the key, but it never missed a beat and it never played a wrong note It’s Debbie «

« When she was in high school, in addition to taking her classes with the Houston Ballet, she would go downtown every afternoon after class to take classes with Madame Simonova, who had been a former prima dancer. with Ballet Rús, so she had that kind of training, she also decided to join the swim team She was the smallest in the swim team and these people were tall, so when they dove into the water, they were halfway to the pool because they were tall When she dove into the water, she was almost back on shore «

« So in one of the relay races she swims her little heart, swims her little heart And the race is over, she didn’t stop swimming until she finished the course And people forgot who won the first, second, third and fourth They were standing by the pool shouting, « Go on Debbie! Go on Debbie! » «

« She was always tackling the thing that looked like she couldn’t do, due to her physical size, which is nothing is too big for her to do » , remembers Rashad of her sister « She’s always been like that I’m very proud of what she gave to the world in dance Debbie really inspired I don’t think she’s as famous as she will be with the time, not only for herself, but also for people The number of young people who have received a very solid training in dance and experience in professionalism because she is a dear chef de mission She finds no excuse because someone at four, five or six She says, “Come on, honey! Let’s go! « And they love him for that »

Of course, if you’ve followed the family legacy, you know well enough that Phylicia Rashad’s daughter, Condola Rashad, continues the family tradition of excellence, building a solid reputation in the theater (she was Juliet in « Romeo and Juliet ») as well as television and cinema

“What I’m most proud of with my daughter is her work ethic,” Rashad says of Condola “She looked like a young girl When she was very young I always took her with me and she was always looking at what the work actually was – how it came together, what the rehearsal process looked like She was helping me learn my lines When she learned to read she helped me learn my lines She’s phenomenal I’m so proud of her She’s accomplished – oh my God, when I look at her career, her timeline and the moment chosen, after school, it’s really incredible «

You can find it on Amazon Prime on October 6th as part of the « Welcome To The Blumhouse » series!
