The underused West Indian team could still cause problems for Bangladesh in the upcoming home series, as the visitors have the « element of surprise » with a multitude of fresh faces and will play without expectation, said former cricketers.

For fear of corona viruses and other personal reasons, 12 leading Caribbean cricketers refused to tour Bangladesh, forcing Cricket West Indies to announce a second violin roster for the tour.

The 15-person roster for the one-day international series, led from former Trinidad & Tobago and current West India A team captain Jason Mohammed has only played 115 ODIs, almost half of Shakib Al Hasan’s record of 206 games.

Only six cricketers on the ODI team have Format debuts despite many of them being reserve players and part of the test teams during recent tours from the West Indies to Eng country and New Zealand were.

Former Bangladeshi opener Javed Omar believes the upcoming streak, which begins January 20 with the 50 over competitions, will be tough for the hosts as it is under the additional The pressure is to win.

“Every international series is a challenge for Bangladesh. Playing against second division teams is difficult because if you win you will achieve nothing, but if you lose you will be heavily criticized, ”Javed told New Age on Friday.

Another former national team opener and current commentator, Athar Ali Khan, however, is confident that the Tigers will not be baffled by their new opponents as they successfully dealt with a similar situation against the same side back in 2009.

« I don’t think it will matter much because we play at home.  » Previously, the entire team switched over overnight due to an overnight dispute between the West Indies cricket board and its cricketers, and Bangladesh was faced with an unknown side. But we won both the Test and ODI series very well, « said Athar.

Athar believes that complacency and rust caused by Bangladesh’s long absence from international cricket are major concerns are the tiger.

« I think complacency in mindset could come into play. You have to play according to your earnings and ability. You have to see the ball, not who is bowling … Returning to international cricket after a long time with a smug attitude could do harm, « said Athar.

Former Bangladeshi pacer Hasibul Hossain said the newly formed team is from West Indies could surprise the hosts in the first game with the element of surprise.

« The element of surprise could already work in the first game. After that, both teams are on an equal footing. The first match will set the tone, « Hasibul told New Age.

Hasibul also believes that Bangladesh has enough time to analyze the recordings of the new players from other competitions and to prepare accordingly.

» They announced the roster a few days ago and the first game is more than 10 days away. Now it is up to the team management and the video analyst to collect enough information and process this data, ”said Hasibul.
