Authorities in Tasmania are investigating reports that a great white shark was captured and killed in the northwest of the state over the weekend.
Police received a report that the shark was found in Perkins Bay near Smithton town was killed.
The species is protected under Australian law and is listed as Endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The Tasmania Police would like to hear from anyone who has information about the incident or has videos or pictures.
A shark attack in the area that experts believed affected a great white man made national headlines in July.
A 10-year-old boy sustained severe arm, head and chest injuries when the Shark pulled him off a fishing boat near Stanley.
He was rescued by his father, who jumped into the water and chased the shark away.
