Sometimes even Governor Cuomo knows when to step down: he carefully changed his mind about playing in the Buffalo Bills playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday after massive anger from fans.
The government originally planned to join the fun of finally taking part in a game after announcing on New Years that some fans could go to the Bills’ first home game since 1996, albeit with an audience cap of 6,700 and the big COVID- 19 testing, masking, and distancing requirements.
But Bills fans, who waited decades for a playoff game – and a year to even play – were outraged by Cuomo’s attempt to get a seat Reservations. A Change.org petition banning the government from Bills Stadium had nearly 45,000 signatures Thursday afternoon.
The petition said to the governor, « We don’t want you here » – and for once he listened.
Cuomo is giving the ticket to an Erie County Medical Center nurse « to thank and honor all health care workers. »
The limited ticket availability is part of the New York City Health Department pilot program, Buffalo Bills and NFL to begin safely reopening stores.
With the second-best record in the AFC, the Bills were able to play three home playoff games. We assume that the governor will now have the sense of seeing them all on TV.
