Comments Off on FIFA suspends Kieran Trippier’s game ban pending appeal
Kieran Trippier’s 10-week global football ban has been suspended by FIFA at « Atletico Madrid’s request for interim measures » after the English defender was accused of violating FA betting rules.
Trippier was fined £ 70,000 and a 10-week ban, which FIFA has now suspended pending appeal.
« Following the appeal and, in particular, the Atletico Madrid club’s request for interim measures, the FIFA Appeal Committee agreed to suspend the extension of the suspension until the end of the proceedings before the commission, « commented a FIFA spokesman.
The 30-year-old, who currently plays for Atletico Madrid in La Liga, received a ban and one in December Fine after an independent regulatory committee found four of the seven violations. However, Trippier denies the July 2019 allegations when he first moved to Spain.
Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, CEO of Atletico Madrid, stressed that the ban was « disproportionate to the player and totally unfair to Atletico ».
Trippier had to suspend the midweek clash of the La Liga giants against Getafe, who defeated Atletico 1-0 in his absence, on Wednesday evening.
