One person was hospitalized after the vehicle they were in fell off a platform while being unloaded from a ferry at the Tsawwassen Terminal.
Delta Police Department’s Cris Leykauf said they received a call just after 12:30 p.m.. m. Tuesday afternoon of a vehicle falling off the second floor of a ferry while being unloaded. There was a lone occupant in the truck and the extent of the injuries to the person is unknown.
BC Ferries spokeswoman Deb Marshall said it happened when the last vehicle came off the ship from the upper car deck.
« (The vehicle) pulled away from the ship, then accelerated quickly and smashed a concrete barrier. The vehicle fell about 30 feet on the lower deck and landed on the roof, « she said. « There was an occupant in the vehicle and I understand that he was conscious at the time of the incident. «
BC Ferries released a service notice just before 2pm. m. On Tuesday, the ship, the Coastal Renaissance, was nearly an hour behind schedule due to a “medical emergency by one of our customers that required immediate attention. ”
