UPDATE, with a video message Amanda Kloots, the former actress who chronicled her late husband Nick Cordero’s painful decline from COVID-19, responded to Donald Trump’s Don’t Let COVID Dominate Your life advice, calling the president’s words sad, hurtful and shameful

Yesterday Trump, hospitalized this weekend for COVID treatment, announced his departure from Walter Reed Medical Center with a tweet that instantly divides: « Don’t be afraid of Covid Don’t let him rule your life We have developed, under the Trump administration, very good drugs & knowledge I feel better than 20 years ago! «

The deaf tweet has drawn contempt from many who have lost loved ones to the coronavirus, including some Hollywood stars such as Zach Braff, a close friend of Cordero

To all of the 208,000 Americans who have lost loved ones to this virus – I am by your side, with you, holding your hands Unfortunately, it has dominated our lives, hasn’t it? It dominated the life of Nick’s family and my family I guess we “let it go” – like it’s our choice ?? Sadly not everyone gets the chance to spend two days in the hospital I cried next to my husband for 95 days watching what COVID did to the person I love It’s something to be afraid of After watching the person you love most die of this disease, you would never say what this tweet says There is no empathy for all the lives lost It brags instead It is sad It’s hurtful It’s shameful

In a video posted to his Instagram Story feed, tearful Kloots expressed his shock at Trump’s words

“I’m sitting here at my house and I’m honestly frozen,” Kloots said “I can’t even really move I couldn’t believe what I read I just have to tell all the 208,000 families who have lost a loved one to this disease, you know how terrifying it can be Not everyone has the chance to be discharged from the hospital after two days

« We’ve seen what this disease can do, so guess what? » We are scared We are I still am I think if I’m as sick as Nick little Elvis doesn’t have his mother anymore, then I’m scared And let him « rule » your life? Nobody let him Nick didn’t let him It wasn’t a choice, and it dominated his life, it dominated my life, it dominated the lives of our families for 95 days, and because he didn’t did not succeed, it will forever affect my life «

Kloots continued, « It’s more than hurtful, and have some empathy! Why are you bragging? Empathize with Americans that you are our leader. Have empathy with people in pain and who suffer It’s not fair «

Cordero, who performed on Broadway with Braff in Bullets Over Broadway in 2014, died July 5 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after 95-day battle with COVID-19 The actor’s battle with numerous setbacks and health crisis was recounted by his wife, fitness trainer Kloots, in frequent Instagram updates followed by a global fan base

Earlier yesterday, Kloots posted a post outlining the COVID toll on survivors like herself and her young son Elvis:

Nick passed away three months ago, but COVID took my husband away on April 1, which is seven months ago I realized the other day Elvis and I lost him seven months ago Once he went on the fan he never came back It’s weird to think we’ve been alone for so long Please wear a mask Please continue to take this seriously
