DO SOMETHING! Alberta has the highest new COVID rates per capita than any other province, according to CBC news on Sunday morning. (Premier Jason) Kenney, when are you and your cabinet going to do something about this situation? The province needs some drastic measures to get this under control. Don’t wait for a vaccine. There is no specific timetable for this. DAN OLENICK (While we understand the Prime Minister’s reluctance to lock down Alberta, we don’t get his extended absence at a crucial time. )
ONE TO TALK To quote our esteemed Mayor (Naheed) Nenshi, “We need to have a serious adult conversation (debunking police rhetoric) and when the minister is ready to be a serious adult, We will have a conversation. The only conversations that Mayor Nenshi has considered serious are those where everyone agrees with His Purple Highness. MURRAY McANDREWS (Condescending to the devil. )
THANK YOU, THANK YOU I think it is time to say a special thank you to the people who have served the rest of us without fanfare. This includes the agriculture and transportation sectors that bring food into our stores. all employees in the distribution centers and stores who ensure that the shelves are stocked to meet our basic needs; those who prepare and deliver takeaway; those who deliver packages and our daily newspapers; People cleaning the sidewalks, servicing our appliances and ovens. Here people work day in and day out, go about their business and we should take the time to thank them. There are probably a lot more out there helping their fellow citizens without ballyhoo and headlines. Thanks again to all of you. GWEN ZEEGERS (Fine. Yes, everyone who has helped make the past nine months or so easier, thank you. )
START AT HOME Re: Defuse the Calgary police. Let’s help the city council set a good example and let them undo their own safety in the council chambers. After an investigation, I was told that the city has one guard at the entrance to the council chambers and a second one inside. There is an obvious need for physical protection here. I say let’s turn things upside down and replace these guards with some nice social workers. If they’re really lucky, they might end up with a few with some martial arts. That way, the madmen would have at least half a chance if they came up to them. Try your own medicine, you councilors who want to defeat Calgary’s police force. J. . M.. . ADAIR (sounds unusual. )
PUZZLED ONLY I went to the Repsol Center to make an appointment for the cardio rehab department. The rehab department had very strict protocols. However, I noticed that the people who worked out at the Repsol gyms didn’t have masks on. I also saw groups playing volleyball (wearing masks) which confused me as group sports were being discontinued for our son. On the way home, I passed a casino and can only wonder how many people were there. It really does seem like our government is just talking and doing nothing. BRAD WILLIAMS (Missing in action these days. )
