Victorian businesses today celebrate our state’s progress towards a COVID Safe Summer, the final step on Victoria’s reopening roadmap.
Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews announced today that our restriction level will accelerate from the last step to the COVID Safe Summer from 11. Tonight at 59 o’clock (Sunday, 6. December). The Victorian Chamber strongly advocated the following major changes to business:
The Victorians did so well to get where we are today, and other initiatives like the government’s free QR code for business have increased confidence that Victoria can be fully open and safe to operate.
COVID safe principles such as physical distancing, good hygiene practices, staying at home when you feel uncomfortable and wearing a mask in some settings continue to apply. Workplaces must also maintain and enforce their COVID safety plans.
« The Victorians have sacrificed so much and worked so hard to make sure we can now enjoy a COVID Safe Summer with confidence and optimism. There is great news today for hospitality and events, and the Victorian Chamber is excited to see the relaxation of face mask requirements too. This is a practical advancement as there are no COVID-19 case numbers in the community.
« We got rid of the virus, which means we can get rid of the restrictions too. Now it is up to all of us to rebuild our great state and make it the best place in Australia to do business. « .
« The Victorian Chamber will closely monitor the success of the hotel quarantine system when international flights to Victoria resume tomorrow, and we expect the restrictions to be further relaxed in early January. With the news that a vaccine will be available early next year, we all breathe a sigh of relief that the end of this pandemic is in sight. ”
