World News – AU – Obafemi on move to Swansea

. .

Republic of Ireland forward Michael Obafemi has been linked with a loan transfer to Swansea City.

The 20-year-old has only played two games for Southampton this season and doesn’t seem to be in manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s short-term plans.

Steve Cooper’s swans are runner-up in the championship and are trying to further improve their attack options to bolster their spring promotion spurt.

Jamal Lowe and Andre Ayew were both in good shape for the Welsh club but they are in the market for another scoring threat. Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster had a fruitful loan deal with Swansea last season before signing a move to Sheffield United in the summer.

In November, Hasenhuttl was open about why Obafemi hadn’t seen many minutes this season and said: « If you know me as a coach, you know that for me, form is more important than talent.

« Whenever someone shows me more in the sessions, I’m always interested in taking them and giving them a chance.

« If you see our current roster, there are seven or eight players when I arrived or while I was here there were moments when they weren’t even selected for the roster at all.

« It’s difficult, but you know when you show up there is always a chance to come back. «
