On Thursday, the NRL announced a full 25-round draw for the 2021 season. The Warriors are expected to play 11 games at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland.
However, there are contingent liabilities should the New Zealand-Australia border remain closed, including playing blocks in Australia.
John Sackson, General Manager of NRLWA, said: “After the disappointment that these two games were canceled due to Covid this year, it is fantastic news that both games have resumed for the 2021 season.
« For WA sports fans, it will be a great opportunity to watch the star-studded reigning premieres, the Melbourne Storm, against coach Trent Barrett’s new Bulldogs outfit, considered the great improvers of the Telstra Premiership.
“Likewise, it will be a wonderful privilege to have the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders, the big finalists of 2019 and two of the real powerhouse clubs in the competition, relive their rivalry in HBF Park.
« During their visits, all four clubs will conduct community engagement activities, including visits to select schools and junior rugby league clubs in the Perth area. ”
When announcing the draw, NRL boss Andrew Abdo said he was confident the border would open in time for the season, but the timing could also affect the preseason.
And should the trans-Tasmanian border not reopen in the coming weeks, a decision could be made to relocate the team to Australia for the NRL preseason.
« We have had an ongoing dialogue with the CEO and Chairman of the Warriors about planning their preseason, as this is not just about the first round, but also about the preseason, » said Adbo.
« We’re in pretty advanced discussions about calling if it’s sometime in December to see if the Warriors are moving to Australia for the preseason. « .
The Warriors played the entire 2020 NRL season in Australia and have been tentatively rewarded with two home games set to begin next season.
Melbourne, which only played two NRL games at AAMI Park this year before moving to the Sunshine Coast, will end the season on Nov.. March open at home against South Sydney.
