The McGowan administration has 400. US $ 000 allocated for an additional weekly flight between Kununurra and Balgo in the northwest of the state.
This is the third weekly flight between Balgo and Kununurra via Halls Creek and is scheduled to begin in February 2021.
The Kununurra-Halls Creek-Balgo route is the only one in regional Western Australia that currently offers fewer than three round-trip flights per week.
Aviair currently operates two weekly round-trip flights between Balgo and Kununurra via Halls Creek, with the route subsidized by the state and Commonwealth governments.
The additional weekly flight ensures that Balgo and Halls Creek residents have access to regular flights to and from Kununurra. This is critical as the service is primarily used by communities to access health and other critical services.
In 2020, the McGowan government pledged $ 24. US $ 4 million will be donated to Western Australia’s regional aviation recovery, regional traveler, tourism and economy in Washington.
« Many people in Balgo use these flights to get access to medical services. It is therefore important that regular and reliable services are available, especially during the rainy season.
“We continue to work with airlines and the Commonwealth to ensure affordable and accessible flights in the WA region. ”
