The Swiss-born premium hotel brand Mövenpick is on its way to Australia after Accor announced today that it will open the Mövenpick Hotel Hobart in January 2021.
The arrival of the Mövenpick brand is the result of a collaboration between the brand and the Singaporean hotel group Global Premium Hotels. The brand is already known and very active in many other parts of the world. It has more than 100 locations in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe, including 17 in Egypt and 12 in Saudi Arabia.
Construction of the Mövenpick Hotel Hobart on Elizabeth Street is almost complete. The hotel has 221 rooms with views of Hobart city and harbor. A flexible function room with seating for 100 guests will also be available, although the rooms can be split up for smaller gatherings. The hotel will also have a fully equipped fitness center.
Simon McGrath, CEO of Accor Pacific, said he was delighted to be working with Global Premium Hotels to bring the Mövenpick brand to Australia for the first time.
« Located in the heart of the city and close to the harbor, the Mövenpick Hotel Hobart is well positioned to appeal to business and leisure travelers visiting the vibrant capital city of Hobart, » he said.
“We are planning further locations for this premium brand throughout the Pacific and believe that Mövenpick will quickly gain recognition for its culinary and excellent achievements in the Australian hotel market. ”
With warm and inviting interiors designed by Jaws Architects and Greymatters, perhaps the most popular part of the new Mövenpick Hobart will be its famous “Chocolate Hour”, which corresponds to its Swiss origins – a country known for its confectionery.
The chocolate lesson at Mövenpick Hobart consists of a tasting experience for hotel guests who can enjoy a selection of sweets such as eclairs, brownies and truffles in different flavors. The brand’s famous ice cream can also be bought at the hotel.
At the other end of the health spectrum, Mövenpick’s healthy energy shots with yogurt, fruit and vegetables as part of the breakfast service will be part of the hotel’s F&B menu. A grab and go self-service bar also offers a range of small portions that busy guests can access as part of their morning meal.
James Koh, Chairman of Global Premium Hotels, added his excitement, saying Mövenpick Hobart is a unique addition to an already vibrant city.
« We were intrigued by the Mövenpick brand for this hotel as it has 70 years of culinary heritage and is known for delivering an authentic and memorable guest experience, » said Koh.
With the hotel strategically located in the heart of Hobart’s business district on historic Elizabeth Street, we wanted to embody the rich culture of Tasmania while still providing travelers with a perfect launch pad to explore Hobart and beyond explore. ”
