IN BRIEF: The Celtics earned a statement win over the Toronto Raptors in Game 1 of their second round NBA playoff series inside the Orlando bubble.

The C’s jumped out to a 39-23 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The 3-point shot was a huge weapon for the Celtics, who hit 17 of 39 attempts. The Raptors made just 10 of their 40 3-point attempts.

All five starters plus reserve center Robert Williams scored in double figures for the Celtics. Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart led Boston with 21 points apiece, while Kyle Lowry paced Toronto with 17 points. Boston’s defense also was fantastic, tallying eight steals, four blocks and limiting Toronto to just seven fast break points.

This reaction from Raptors coach Nick Nurse summed up Toronto’s first quarter. Boston led 39-23 after 12 minutes.

You know it’s going well for the Celtics when Robert Williams throws down a windmill dunk.

UP NEXTThe Celtics and Raptors will resume their series Tuesday in Game 2. The start time has not yet been announced.
